I am delighted to welcome you to Royal Porthcawl for The 2023 Senior Open Presented by Rolex.
Royal Porthcawl is one of the world’s finest links course and has renowned history of hosting prestigious championships and international matches. This will also be the third time that it has staged The Senior Open after holding the championship in 2014 and 2017, when Bernhard Langer won on both occasions.
Last year, Darren Clarke became only the fourth golfer after Gary Player, Sir Bob Charles and Tom Watson to win both The Open and The Senior Open after pipping Padraig Harrington to the title at Gleneagles.
The Northern Irishman returns to defend the title along with major champions and greats of the game, including Harrington, José María Olazábal and Wales’ most decorated golfer Ian Woosnam. Former Ryder Cup captains, Colin Montgomerie and Thomas Bjørn will also play.
On behalf of The R&A, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to presenting partner Rolex for their continuing support of The Senior Open. I would also like to thank the Welsh Government and Bridgend County Borough Council, as well as the staff, contractors, and official suppliers of the Championship.
Similarly, our thanks are extended to Royal Porthcawl and the volunteers for the hard work and generosity of time they have given to make The Senior Open a success.
Our partnership with the Legends Tour and the Champions Tour has ensured that The Senior Open is one of the most important championships in golf for the champions of our game.
Finally, to the fans, thank you for your support of this Championship and our great sport. I hope you will enjoy watching these tremendous players and I know we all look forward to seeing who will become The 2023 Senior Open Champion.
