Croeso cynnes iawn, a very warm welcome to Royal Porthcawl.
We are delighted to host, for the third time, the Senior Open Championship, sponsored by Rolex, over our great links. The two previous Championships held here have contrasted enormously in weather conditions, but incredibly the same competitor has prevailed. Bernhard Langer returns to try and complete his “Triple Crown”, but many will stand in his way. Defending Champion, Darren Clarke, will be joined by Padraig Harrington who returns to the scene of one of his great amateur triumphs as a member of the victorious Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team of 1995. We also look forward to welcoming players from around the world who will come together to give a truly international flavour to this great event.
Since the Championship was last with us in 2017 there have been some significant changes to the course, especially around fairway bunkering. This has heightened the challenge off the tee, and we look forward to the course providing a stern, but fair, test for these world class players.
Finally, our thanks go to the DP World Tour, The R&A, the Welsh Assembly Government, Bridgend Borough Councill, and, of course, Rolex for their support in enabling this most prestigious of Championships to come to our shores again.
We look forward to a week of rekindling old friendships, the making of new and above all else, some memorable golf.
Pwb lwc pawb. Good luck everyone.
