El Road to Mallorca se prepara para una final fascinante

Tras la disputa de 29 torneos repartidos en 19 países de tres continentes diferentes, el Road to Mallorca 2023 llega esta semana a su fin. La Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final, financiada por la R&A, será la última oportunidad de los golfistas para ganar una de las 20 plazas en el DP World Tour que hay en juego.

Será la tercera vez que el Club de Golf Alcanada albergue el acontecimiento estrella del final de temporada gracias a la extensión del acuerdo durante cuatro años con la Federación Balear de Golf. Los cuatro días del torneo se televisarán en directo, así que los aficionados de todo el mundo podrán ver cómo se desarrolla esta dramática semana y descubrir a las futuras superestrellas del golf.

Manuel Elvira regresa a territorio español como el rival a batir en el Road to Mallorca, después de alcanzar la cabeza de la clasificación por primera vez esta temporada tras acabar entre los diez mejores del Hainan Open.

El golfista de 27 años ya se ha asegurado el ascenso al DP World Tour, pero espera poder ofrecerles un final espectacular en casa a sus apasionados seguidores, ya que quiere convertirse en el tercer español que se corona ganador de la temporada general.

Ugo Coussaud sigue de cerca a Elvira: solo lo separan 20 puntos de la primera posición. El francés arrancó 2023 de forma arrolladora y no bajó del 21^er puesto en ninguno de los ocho eventos iniciales del año. Luego, pasó a encabezar por primera vez el Road to Mallorca gracias a su primera victoria, que se produjo en el Challenge presentado por la KGA en la India. Desde entonces, siempre se ha mantenido en uno de los dos primeros puestos.

Casey Jarvis completa el tercer lugar del podio y espera ser uno de los más jóvenes en graduarse en esta promoción del 2023. Jesper Svensson, Adam Blomme, Lorenzo Scalise, Andrea Pavan, Matteo Manassero, Alex Fitzpatrick y Ricardo Gouveia ocupan el resto de posiciones del top ten.

Esta semana se disputan 20 plazas para el DP World Tour, por lo que los golfistas fuera de los 20 mejores puestos del Road to Mallorca quieren dar un arreón final. Todos los jugadores que salten al verde podrían asegurarse el privilegio de competir en el mejor circuito de Europa si logran esta victoria.

Ashley Chesters, Oliver Farr, Sam Bairstow, Marco Penge y Frederic Lacroix ocupan las cinco posiciones por debajo del 20º puesto. Si cualquiera de ellos completa cuatro buenas jornadas, al acabar la semana su vida podría ser totalmente diferente a la que están acostumbrados.

Todo está preparado para una final fascinante en lo que ha sido otra temporada para recordar.  Entre sus mejores momentos destacan el regreso a los EAU, con dos eventos en Abu Dabi; contar con 26 ganadores diferentes en 29 torneos, y ver a Lauri Ruuska haciendo historia en su país natal en el Vierumäki Finnish Challenge al completar la cuarta vuelta con menos de 60 golpes en la historia del Challenge Tour.

Aquellos que se ganen esta semana el privilegio de jugar en el DP World Tour esperan unirse a la ilustre lista de antiguas estrellas del Challenge Tour que se han convertido en estrellas mundiales.

Los antiguos participantes Justin Rose y Matt Fitzpatrick han llegado a ganar majors y muchos más han llegado a participar en la Ryder Cup, como Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood y Robert MacIntyre entre otros.

Road to Mallorca set for fascinating finale

Having played 29 tournaments, staged across three continents in 19 different countries, the 2023 Road to Mallorca comes to an end this week, with the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A the last chance saloon for players to win one of 20 DP World Tour cards on offer.

Club de Golf Alcanada will host the end-of-season showpiece for the third time in the first of an extended four-year agreement with the Federación Balear de Golf, while all four days of the tournament will be televised live, giving fans across the world the chance to watch the dramatic week unfold as golfing superstars of the future are unearthed.

Manuel Elvira returns to Spanish soil as the main to beat on the Road to Mallorca having reached the summit of the Rankings for the first time this season after a top ten finish in the Hainan Open.

The 27-year-old has already guaranteed promotion to the DP World Tour but will be hoping for a strong finish in front of the passionate home fans, as he looks to become the third Spaniard to be crowned winner of the season-long rankings.

Elvira is closely followed by Ugo Coussaud, who is just 20 points off top of the Rankings. The Frenchman got 2023 off to fast start, finishing no lower than 21st place in each of the opening eight events of 2023, before moving to the summit of the Road to Mallorca for the first time in March off the back of a maiden win at The Challenge presented by KGA, and has been in the top two ever since.

Casey Jarvis completes the top three and is in line to become one of the youngest graduates from the class of 2023, while Jesper Svensson, Adam Blomme, Lorenzo Scalise, Andrea Pavan, Matteo Manassero, Alex Fitzpatrick and Ricardo Gouveia make up the rest of the top ten in the Rankings.

With 20 DP World Tour cards on offer this week, those players outside of the Road to Mallorca top 20 will be hoping for one final push, with every member of the field able to secure playing privileges on Europe’s No.1 circuit with victory.

Ashley Chesters, Olivar Farr, Sam Bairstow, Marco Penge and Frederic Lacroix occupy the five places below the top 20, with each knowing four good rounds could see them end the week with a totally different life than they have become accustomed to.

It’s all set up for a fascinating finale in what has been another season to remember.  Highlights have included a return to the UAE with two events in Abu Dhabi, 26 different winners in 29 events and Lauri Ruuska making history on home soil at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge by signing for just the fourth sub-60 round in Challenge Tour history.

Those who do get their hands on their DP World Tour playing privileges this week will be hoping to join an illustrious list of former Challenge Tour stars who have gone on to become global stars.

Former alumni Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick have won Major Championships, while a whole host have gone to play in the Ryder Cup, including Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre.
